ECHL South Carolina Stingrays

Traynor Traded to Trenton

October 15, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC South Carolina Stingrays Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that the team traded defenseman Paul Traynor to the Trenton Titans in exchange for future considerations. Traynor played a game with the Charlotte Checkers last week, but was determined to be property of South Carolina. Yesterday, the ECHL stripped the Charlotte Checkers of two points and awarded the points to the Greenville Grrrowl, which had lost to the Checkers on Friday.

Traynor, a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, was a seventh round draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets in 1995. He split his time last season between the Stingrays and the Syracuse Crunch. He is a veteran by ECHL standards. The Stingrays currently have four veterans on their roster, which is the league maximum. Traynor has spent the majority of his professional career in the AHL and the IHL.

"Paul is an exceptional defenseman and is an outstanding addition to any team," noted Fitzsimmons. "He is an AHL caliber player and will most likely find his way back to that level. Because he is now a veteran, it is hard to take a gamble on Paul playing the majority of the year in the ECHL."

Traynor stands 6'1" and weighs 200lbs.

The Stingrays will open up their home schedule on Saturday night when they host the Columbus Cottonmouths. Each fan in attendance will receive a poster schedule, courtesy of Budweiser. Before the contest, fans will be treated to a laser light show and a ten-year highlight video.
