Travs Lose Second Game Of Doubleheader 1-0

North Little Rock - The Travelers lost 1-0 in the second game of a doubleheader against the Tulsa Drillers on Wednesday, April 27, at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Travs outhit the Drillers 3-2, but the Drillers scored a run in the fifth inning without a hit.

Travs righty Daniel Sattler relieved in the top of the fifth and with one out, he hit right fielder Mike Daniel with a pitch. Daniel advanced to second when Sattler attempted to pick him off at first and threw it past the first baseman Dillon Baird. Sattler walked third baseman Warren Schaeffer to put runners at first and second. Daniel stole third base and scored when Sattler got Schaeffer in a run down between first and second base. Schaeffer got back to first safely when Baird missed the tag.

Sattler (0-2, 11.42) picked up the loss in an inning of relief.

Tulsa righty Joey Williamson started and pitched four scoreless innings, giving up one hit and walking three. Drillers reliever Stephen Dodson (3-0, 2.13) picked up the win, striking out the side in the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Baird hit a leadoff single to centerfield, but was erased at second base when third baseman Luis Jimenez hit into a fielder's choice. Jimenez advanced to second when designated hitter Marvin Lowrance walked with one out, but Clay Fuller popped out to the shortstop and catcher Ikko Sumi hit the ball hard up the middle, but it ricocheted off the pitcher to the second baseman who threw him out at first, ending the Travelers' threat.

Travs right fielder Angel Castillo walked to start the bottom of the third and advanced to second on Mike Trout's ground out to first base. Shortstop Darwin Perez walked the next at bat and he and Castillo advanced to second and third base on Ryan Mount's groundout to second base. Baird grounded out to second stranding two runners.

Arkansas lefty Andrew Taylor started, but pitched just one inning, striking out two, before being relieved by righty Chris Scholl in the second. Scholl went on to pitch three scoreless innings, giving up a hit and two walks, and striking out five. Scholl struck out the side in the fourth inning.

Travs righty Steven Geltz relieved Sattler in the six and pitched two innings. He gave up one hit while striking out five, and struck out the side in the sixth.

Designated hitter Darin Holcomb went 2 for 3 for the Drillers, while Baird and Jimenez each went 1 for 3 for the Travs. Castillo went 1 for 2 with a walk for Arkansas.

The Travs finish the weather-shortened series against the Drillers on Thursday, April 28, at Dickey-Stephens Park. The Travs will start lefty Trevor Reckling (0-2, 2.30) and the Drillers will throw righty Cory Riordan (0-2, 7.36).

Reckling got the loss his last outing on April 20. He pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and striking out five in the five-inning perfect game that Frisco's Martin Perez threw against the Travs. After getting shelled his first two starts, Riordan pitched seven innings and gave up two runs on three hits, and struck out seven, earning the loss in his last outing. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and gates open at 6:10.
