
Storms Stay Away, Travs Take First Game 7-2

After being postponed four consecutive days due to storms in central Arkansas, the Travelers took the first game of a doubleheader 7-2 over the Tulsa Drillers on Wednesday, April 27, at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Angels' No. 1 prospect, centerfielder Mike Trout, went 3 for 4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored, and third baseman Luis Jimenez went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs to propel the Travs to victory.
Right-handed starter Garrett Richards (2-0, 3.91) pitched six innings to earn his second win of the year, while striking out four. He gave up three hits, three walks and a two-run homerun in the top of the third to leadoff man Tim Wheeler.
The Travs got on the board and took a 1-0 lead when catcher Orlando Mercado hit a one-out single to centerfield, scoring Clay Fuller, who reached on a bunt single. Mercado was thrown out when he tried to advance to second. With two outs, right-fielder Angel Castillo hit an RBI-single to right field, scoring Dillon Baird, who reached after being hit by a pitch. Trout followed with a double, second baseman Darwin Perez walked and Jimenez hit a two-run single to center that scored Castillo and Trout, making it a 4-0 Travs lead. Jimenez ended the inning being thrown out at second on an attempted steal, stranding Perez at third base.
After Wheeler's two-run shot in the top of the third made it 4-2, the Travs struck again in the bottom of the inning when designated hitter Ryan Mount scored after a single by Fuller. Mount scored when the left fielder mishandled the ball for an error. Mercado drove in his second run of the game when he hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Fuller, making it 6-2.
Driller lefty starter Christian Friedrich (1-2, 7.65) picked up the loss after giving up seven runs on 10 hits in four innings.
Arkansas picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Trout led off with his second double and scored on Jimenez' single to left field giving the Travs their final margin.
Travs lefty reliever Matt Meyer struck out two in an inning of relief of the seven-inning game and left-fielder Fuller went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
