June 11, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers walked off 5-4 winners over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals in the bottom of the ninth inning on Saturday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.
With the bases loaded and one out, SS Anthony Phillips lasered a hit down the right field line to propel the Travs to victory.
With the score tied 4-4 in the ninth, C Jose Briceno blooped a one out double down the left field line to put the winning run in scoring position. After RHP Evan Beal (L, 2-2) threw a wild pitch on an attempted intentional walk ball, the Naturals intentionally loaded the bases before the Phillips single.
Arkansas led 4-3 in fourth, and held that lead all the way into the ninth. RHP DJ Johnson (W, 1-3) came on in the ninth to try and close the door. Johnson hit CF Bubba Starling to start the inning and starling advanced to third on a C Alan de San Miguel single to left. After back-to-back outs without allowing a run, 3B Jack Lopez knocked a two-out single up the middle to tie the game on an 0-2 pitch.
RHP Victor Alcantara surrendered three runs on four hits in the first inning but settled in nicely, allowing only one hit over the next five innings. In total, Alcantara allowed the three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
RHP Zach Nuding (1.2 IP) and LHP Tyler DeLoach (0.1 IP) worked the seventh and eighth without allowing a run.
Every Arkansas starter reached base and four Travs contributed multi-hit efforts.
The Travs left 15 men on base, three more than any other game this season.
The walk-off victory was the second for Arkansas this season.
With the win, Arkansas improved to 5-4 against Northwest Arkansas this season and to 25-36 overall. The two teams will play game two of the four-game series on Sunday afternoon at Dickey-Stephens Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
