San Antonio Missions News Release
San Antonio had to settle for a series split following a 3-2 loss to Frisco Friday night before a season-high crowd of 8,056 at Wolff Stadium.
Friday night featured the highly anticipated Double-A debut of Dinelson Lamet. The 23-year-old arrived earlier in the week from High-A Lake Elsinore, where he was 7-1 with a 2.35 ERA over 12 starts. Lamet started strong for the Missions Friday, matching zeroes with 'Riders southpaw Yohander Mendez through three.
In the top of the fourth, Frisco worked some two-out magic against Lamet, beginning with a Joe Jackson walk. Andy Ibanez gave the 'Riders a 1-0 lead when he followed with a triple to right center.
After working a clean fifth, Lamet (0-1) ran into trouble in the sixth. The right-hander allowed a walk and two singles to begin the frame. The second single, off the bat of Jackson, made the score 2-0. It also ended the night for Lamet. Frisco pushed its lead to three later in the frame against reliever Adam Cimber with a Luis Mendez single. That run was also charged to Lamet, who allowed just three hits, but walked four in his five plus. Lamet also fanned five on the night, throwing a total of 83 pitches (48 strikes).
San Antonio did not touch Mendez (3-0), but took advantage of his exit in the sixth, plating a run off right-hander Jose Valdespina on a Nick Schulz groundout. An inning later, Jose Rondon's third double of the night, trimmed the San Antonio deficit to just one. Rondon became the first Mission to have a three-double game this season.
Unfortunately for the Missions, they never found the equalizer. Relievers Reed Garrett and Adam Parks (sixth save) kept San Antonio off the board over the final two frames.
San Antonio (19-40) hits the road Saturday to open up a nine-game road trip with the first of four against the Corpus Christi Hooks (37-22). First pitch from Whataburger Field is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Aaron Northcraft, who joined the team on Friday from Triple-A El Paso, will get the start for the Missions. Northcraft appeared in 20 games (making two starts) for San Antonio in 2015, going 1-2 with a 2.93 ERA. Corpus Christi will counter with fellow righty Cy Sneed (3-1, 3.27).
