Travis Clayton Sets CHL Games Played Record

November 21, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League (CHL) saw one of its top records fall on Friday night in Broomfield, Colorado when Bossier-Shreveport's Travis Clayton played in his 709th career CHL game becoming the CHL's All-Time games played leader. Clayton passes Joe Burton who dressed in 708 CHL games, all with the Oklahoma City Blazers.

"The CHL is very proud of Travis and all that he has accomplished personally and for the league," said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. "He will go down as one of the greatest players ever to skate in the league and his presence both on and off the ice has and will create lasting memories for all CHL hockey fans."

Entering this season, the Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan native had played all of his previous 696 games with the Wichita Thunder collecting 834 points (third all-time in the CHL), 326 goals (second all-time in the CHL) and 508 assists (third all-time in the CHL) in his 11 seasons.

During the off-season, Clayton signed with the Mudbugs taking on a new challenge for his 12th CHL season. Entering Friday's game, the 5-8, 180-pound forward had played in 12 contests with Bossier-Shreveport scoring six goals with seven assists. He has helped the Mudbugs to an 8-3-1 start once again pacing the storied franchise among the leaders in the CHL.

All of Clayton's professional games have been played in the CHL with the exception of 12 games during the 2000-01 season in the International Hockey League where he saw action with Kansas City and Detroit.

The CHL along with all its member teams congratulate Travis on his accomplishment.
