Shots from the Point
Published on November 21, 2008 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
1- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (8-3-1) continue their five-game road trip that has them 0-1-1 thus far with a pair of games this weekend versus teams from the Northwest Division, the Rocky Mountain Rage (3-7-1) and the Colorado Eagles (11-2-0). During Friday's game with the Rage, Mudbugs forward Travis Clayton will break the CHL record for games played by suiting up for his 709th regular season CHL game. The feat will break the old mark set by long-time Oklahoma City Blazer forward Joe Burton. Clayton entered this season ranking in the CHL's top three in games played, points, goals and assists. Clayton has six goals and seven assists this season in 11 games with the Mudbugs who are five points behind the Oklahoma City Blazers for first place in the Northeast Division.
2- The Texas Brahmas (7-3-1) have been on fire lately winning each of their last three games. No team has made better in-season acquisitions than Dan Wildfong's bunch. In late October, Scott Sheppard and Grant Jacobsen were re-signed. The Brahmas then inked defenseman Eric Lundberg and 30-goal scorer Jordan Cameron in early November. The latest coup is getting forward Jason Deitsch back from the AHL's Houston Aeros. Deitsch has seven points (2-5=7) in 10 games with the Aeros (the AHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild). Texas plays at Wichita on Friday, home to Tulsa on Saturday and then at Oklahoma City on Sunday.
3- The defending Ray Miron President's Cup Champion Arizona Sundogs travel to Rio Rancho, New Mexico this weekend for a pair of games versus the New Mexico Scorpions. The two teams are off to sub-500 starts with each club looking to build some momentum. Each team has won a game this season versus the other with both games taking place in Arizona. The clubs have built quite a rivalry over the past two seasons with each team dismissing the other in a playoff series (NMX won in 2007 and ARZ won in 2008). The two teams have played 28 games in their history with Arizona holding a 15-13-0 record. Craig Macdonald has scored three goals this season versus the Sundogs and has 12 goals in his career versus Arizona.
