Training Camp to Kick off Monday, August 30th
August 26, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Soo Greyhounds News Release
For the first time in over 537 days members of the Soo Greyhounds will take to the ice at the GFL Memorial Gardens on Monday, August 30 as the team opens its 2021 Training Camp.
The highly-anticipated Soo Greyhounds main training camp will feature over 55 players vying for their chance to earn a coveted spot on the 2021-22 Greyhounds roster.
In addition to returning players, top picks from the 2019, 2020, and 2021 OHL and Under-18 Priority Selections, along with numerous free agent invites will be in attendance. With several unfamiliar faces, main camp will provide for Head Coach John Dean the chance to see the most recent draft classes on the ice ahead of the 2021-22 season.
A full list of all players attending main camp can be found HERE, while a detailed roster form can be found HERE.
In many ways this year's camp will be similar to every other, with players participating in off-ice testing, skills sessions, scrimmages, and practices however, with the recent announcement by the Ontario Hockey League to extend the leagues vaccination policy to all spectators, the Greyhounds have made the difficult decision to close all training camp activities to the general public.
"This was a difficult decision for us to make. We know many of our fan's love coming and watching training camp, but unfortunately we are just not ready to welcome them into the GFL Memorial Gardens at this time" said Greyhounds President, Tim Lukenda. "The health and safety of our fans, players and staff is paramount. We are working closely with the City of Sault Ste. Marie on an effective and efficient procedure for checking all those who wish to enter the GFL Memorial Gardens to see our games and will have it in place in time for the Red and White game on September 3" added Lukenda.
