Training camp report day five

Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, June 2, 2005 - The Alouettes continued their training camp at the Campus du Fort Saint-Jean today. Here's a look at Day 5, which was held outdoors:

James Whitley is back in town

Cornerback James Whitley, who played with the Als in 2001, is back in Montreal. Whitley, who left the Alouettes for the NFL's St.Louis Rams, also played with the Green Bay Packers. He was undergoing his medical today. ''We've been after him all winter,'' General Manager Jim Popp proudly stated.

Heppell returns

Alouette Alumni Bruno Heppell was back at training camp today for the first time since he announced his retirement on Mar. 3. He did not seem to miss the two-a-days that much... (see photo)

Visit from Laval

Université Laval Rouge Head Coach Glen Constantin paid a visit to his former players this morning. He is very proud of Matthieu Proulx and Phillip Gauthier. (see photo)

Bumps and bruises

Tackle Luke Fritz (hamstring) and receiver Darnell McDonald (groin) both sustained minor injuries today.

Calvillo absent

Quarterback Anthony Calvillo was not at practice today, as he accompanied his wife Alexia to the 32-week pregnancy ultrasound. The due date for their first child is July 24.

According to Coach Matthews

''Middle linebackers Kevin Johnson and Michael Botterill are flying out there,'' he said. ''Kelly Malveaux is doing very well at the wide field cornerback position and receivers Tim Gilligan and Kerry Watkins are also doing very well.''

Regular practice schedule tomorrow

First practice is scheduled for 8 a.m. and players will be available after the second practice. Please contact the communications department to confirm the location of practice.
