Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Behind the brilliant pitching of Dallas Trahern, the Albuquerque Isotopes (63-72) cruised to a 9-1 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs (62-73) Saturday night at Isotopes Park. Leadoff hitter Robert Andino was the âTopes offensive catalyst, going three-for-four including his sixth homer of the season in front of a crowd of 12,742 that put the Isotopes just 2,810 fans away from surpassing a club total season attendance record with one more home game to play.
The Z's only run came in the first frame, when Jesus Feliciano lined a triple down the left field line into the corner and promptly scored on an Andy Green single up the middle to give New Orleans an initial one-run lead, 1-0.
After allowing the lone run in the first inning, Trahern (5-10) settled into an unstoppable groove in which he scattered ten hits and struck out six, while over the final seven innings of work a Zephyr batter did not reach second base. The right-hander pitched a season-high eight innings while not walking a batter to claim his fifth win of the season.
Albuquerque owned the rest of the game, as Brett Hayes began the bottom of the third by tripling to right-center field, before the pitcher Trahern knocked a single past the shortstop to tie the game up at one. Andino continued his hot hitting by slugging a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the âTopes a two-run edge, 3-1.
Jason Wood kicked off a rally in the fourth with a leadoff single to left for Andrew Beattie, who scolded a triple off the right-center field wall that knocked in Wood and increased the lead to three, 4-1. With a runner on third, Hayes drove in Beattie with a sacrifice fly to left that extended Albuquerque's advantage to four, 5-1.
In the fifth inning, Dallas McPherson cracked a two-out double to right-center field that set up Michael Ryan, who added a single to right-center that scored McPherson for the Isotopes sixth run, 6-1.
The âTopes added more in the seventh when Andino drew a leadoff walk in front of Tagg Bozied, who slashed a one-out single to left that moved Andino up 90-feet. After a McPherson walk to load the bases, Ryan came through in the clutch again, roping a single to right-center that drove in Andino and McPherson to give the Isotopes a commanding seven-run lead, while Bozied raced to third. Wood capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to right that knocked in Bozied for Albuquerque's final run, 9-1.
Following Trahern's dominant eight-inning performance, Ross Wolf came into the game and shut down New Orleans in the ninth inning to secure the 9-1 triumph.
Albuquerque will look to complete their second home sweep of the season behind right-hander Frankie De La Cruz (12-7, 4.35) who will take the ball for the âTopes against New Orleans southpaw Jonathan Niese (4-1, 3.66) in 6:05 PM start from Isotopes Park.
The Isotopes 2008 home schedule comes to an end tomorrow night as Fan Appreciation Weekend closes with a final fireworks show Sunday. Special Isotopes Grab Bags will also be distributed tomorrow as the âTopes say a hearty thanks to their devoted fans for another stellar season.
