Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
Chris Frey hit a two-out line drive just out of John Lindsey's reach in the tenth inning Saturday night to finish off a 7-6 comeback victory against Las Vegas.
The 4,844 fans at Security Service Field weren't so happy early in the game. Colorado Springs fell behind 6-1 after the 51s put up a four spot in the sixth inning against Valerio De Los Santos.
Throwing in relief of starting pitcher Oscar Villarreal, De Los Santos entered the game to begin the sixth inning and allowed the first six Las Vegas batters to reach base safely.
The Sky Sox started their comeback in the seventh inning when Greg Miller entered the game in place of 51s starting pitcher Eric Stults.
Stults had shut down the home team for most of the game, allowing just one unearned run on two hits in six innings.
Miller wasn't as effective. The reliever issued three walks in an inning that saw the Sky Sox score four times despite not recording a hit. Joe Koshansky's home run to leadoff the eighth inning tied the game at six.
Villarreal did his best to keep the home team within a run, tossing five innings of two-run baseball on a night where he had to fight out of some early trouble.
The Sky Sox starter issued consecutive walks following Luis Maza's leadoff single in the first inning. Andruw Jones, playing in his first game of the series, put the visitors on the board with a bases loaded single up the middle that plated two runs. Villarreal was able to keep the damage to a minimum, though, inducing an inning-ending double play two batters later.
The 51s threatened again in the second inning when A.J. Ellis and Chin-Lung Hu reached base to begin the inning, but Villarreal was able to come out unscathed, retiring the next three batters consecutively.
Matt Daley (4-6) picked up the win after allowing just a walk in the tenth inning.
Dwayne Pollok (10-5) took the loss after allowing three consecutive two-out hits, including Frey's game winner, in the tenth inning.
The Sky Sox and 51s close out their five-game set Sunday with a 1:05 MDT game. Jason Hirsh (4-3, 5.12) will try to give the Sky Sox a series win against Miguel Pinango (5-9, 5.28).
