
Padres Purchase Contract Of Dirk Hayhurst

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Dirk Hayhurst and optioned first baseman Brian Myrow to Portland. Additionally, right-handed pitcher Nick Vincent was transferred to Portland from Class A Eugene and catcher Luke Carlin was optioned to Portland late Friday.
Hayhurst, 27, is 2-3 with a 3.75 ERA (35er, 84.0ip), two saves and 98 strikeouts in 46 appearances (2 starts) with the Beavers this season. An eighth-round selection of the Padres in the 2003 draft, Hayhurst will make his major league debut by starting against the San Francisco Giants today.
In three seasons with Portland (2006-08), Hayhurst has a 3-5 record with a 4.81 ERA over 60 appearances (6 starts). On Thursday, he was named the Beavers Community Player of the Year for his outstanding efforts off the field this season.
Myrow, 31, is batting .143 (3-for-21) with one home run and three RBIs in 21 games with the Padres this season. With Portland in 2008, Myrow has a .324 batting average with 10 home runs, 21 doubles, one triple, 71 walks, 56 runs scored and 53 RBIs in 87 games. In two seasons with the Beavers (2007-08), Myrow is hitting .341 with 23 home runs, 52 doubles, five triples, 127 walks, 126 RBIs and 117 runs scored in 194 games.
Vincent was an 18th-round draft choice of the Padres this year out of Long Beach State. The 22-year-old is 3-2 with a 4.57 ERA, two saves and 36 strikeouts in 15 appearances (7 starts) with the Emeralds this season.
In two stints with San Diego this season, Carlin, 27, is batting .154 (14-for-91) with one home run, one triple, three doubles, six RBIs and 12 runs scored in 33 games. In 22 games overall with Portland this season, Carlin is hitting .328 (21-for-64) with three doubles, four home runs, 18 RBIs, 12 runs scored and 17 walks. In three seasons with the club (2006-08), he has a .250 batting average, eight home runs, 37 doubles, 64 RBIs and 74 runs scored in 194 games.
With today's moves, the Beavers' active roster is at 23 players plus two major league rehabilitation assignments.
