York Revolution News Release
Chad Tracy belted a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the York Revolution came from behind for a huge 7-5 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Wednesday evening at Santander Stadium. The win is the sixth consecutive victory for the Revs, who lower their magic number to two to clinch the Freedom Division's first half title. The Revs will have their first opportunity to accomplish that on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. when they host the Blue Crabs in the final game of their eight-game homestand.
Down 5-4 in the seventh, the Revs put two runners on as Justin Greene and Wilson Valdez both reached on infield singles with one out. Reliever Jake Brown recorded the second out of the inning, but fell behind Tracy who connected on a 3-1 pitch, sending a missile over the Arch Nemesis in left field for the dramatic go-ahead shot. It was Tracy's ninth of the season, all in the last 20 games during his offensive tear, and the Revs' season high-tying fourth long ball of the night as a team.
The bullpen took care of things from there as Stephen Penney fired a perfect eighth inning, and Rommie Lewis allowed only a two-out single in the ninth for his 16th save of the year.
The game was tied 2-2 into the sixth inning when Steve Moss led off with an opposite field home run to right-center, giving Southern Maryland their first lead of the game at 3-2.
The Revs answered in their half of the sixth as Travis Garcia launched a two-out, two-run homer over the Arch Nemesis, briefly putting York back ahead at 5-4. It was Garcia's ninth of the year, and fourth in the last six games.
The Blue Crabs pulled back ahead with two runs in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Moss and a sac fly by Jake Opitz, but reliever Beau Vaughan (3-2) prevented any further damage and picked up the win.
The Revs struck first in the game as Greene led off the bottom of the first with a homer to left-center, his third leadoff home run in the last five games, while extending his hitting streak to 14 consecutive games. The leadoff homer was his fourth of the year overall, setting a new club record for a single season.
Eric Patterson also connected on a solo homer in the bottom of the first for an early 2-0 lead. The Revs have scored in the first inning in each of the first seven games of the homestand including exactly two runs in six of those seven games, having outscored opponents 13-0 in the first inning on that stretch.
Southern Maryland tied it with an RBI double by C.J. Ziegler and an RBI single by Jermaine Mitchell in the top of the second, but Revs starter Corey Thurman settled in to face the minimum over his final three innings, working five innings in the no-decision. Of his two runs allowed, only one was earned.
Blue Crabs reliever Eric Massingham (1-3) took the loss, charged with two of the three runs in the seventh.
The six-game winning streak ties a season-high for the Revs, whose 2.5-game division lead is also a new season best. The Revs improve to 40-26, a season-best 14 games over .500, while tying the club record for wins in a first half with four games still to play.
