
'Fish Come Back to Beat Long Island

(Central Islip, NY. - July 1, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated Long Island Ducks 9-4 on Tuesday evening at Bethpage Ballpark.
Bridgeport fell behind 3-0 after the first three innings with Long Island's designated hitter Randy Ruiz hitting two home runs, a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. Ruiz picked up his fourth RBI of the night in the bottom of the fifth inning, bringing home shortstop Dan Lyons on a sacrifice fly and giving the Ducks a 4-0 lead.
The 'Fish started their comeback in the top of the sixth inning as left fielder Denny Almonte brought home Prentice Redman on an RBI sacrifice fly after Redman led off the inning with a double, cutting Long Island's lead to 4-1. The big inning for Bridgeport came in the top of the eighth inning as Almonte hit a two-run double with one out, bringing the score to 4-3. After Long Island reliever Brett Lorin (0-1) walked first baseman Austin Gallagher to load the bases, second baseman Juan Martinez hit a grand slam home run over the left field wall to give Bridgeport a 7-4 lead. The 'Fish would tack on two more runs in the top of the ninth inning when catcher J.R. Towles hit an RBI double and came around to score when Gallagher reached on a fielders choice.
Tomo Ohka (3-6) started for Bridgeport and earned the win, allowing four runs on five hits while walking two batters in seven innings of work. Lorin picked up the loss in relief for Long Island after Ducks starter Shaun Garceau gave up four runs on seven hits in seven and a third innings pitched. Bridgeport relievers Tim Gustafson and Winston Abreu each pitched scoreless innings in relief after Ohka came out to preserve the win for the 'Fish.
Bridgeport will face Long Island for game four of the five game series on Wednesday evening, with first pitch at 7:05pm. The 'Fish return to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday, July 7th to begin a three-game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
