York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution enjoyed another dominant victory, pounding the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 8-1 on Tuesday night at Santander Stadium. Winners of five straight, the Revs increase their division lead to two games over Lancaster with five remaining in the season's first half. York's magic number to clinch a first half Freedom Division title and postseason berth is now three. The Revs will host the Blue Crabs the next two nights before their three-game series in Lancaster this weekend to close the first half.
The Revs followed their recent formula of jumping on an opponent right away. With two outs in the first, Eric Patterson drove a triple to right-center, bringing to the plate Chad Tracy who launched a two-run homer to left for the quick 2-0 lead. The homer was Tracy's eighth of the season and eighth in the last 19 games, while Patterson's triple tied the Revs' career record for triples with 13, matching Scott Grimes at the top of the list.
Tracy's RBI single extended the lead in the third, before the offense erupted for five runs in the fifth inning. Patterson contributed an RBI double, while Tracy and Ofilio Castro chipped in with RBI singles. Sean Smith drew a bases loaded walk and Alberto Espinosa drove in the final run on a fielder's choice as it quickly became an 8-0 lead.
Revs starter Alain Quijano (6-4) worked a season-high eight innings, allowing only an RBI single by Amadeo Zazueta with two outs in the eighth. Quijano finished with 95 pitches, and needed just 75 pitches to get through the first seven innings during which he limited the Blue Crabs to just four singles, all in the first four innings.
Ian Durham closed it out with a scoreless ninth out of the York bullpen.
Patterson, Tracy, and Castro all enjoyed three-hit nights, leading a 13-hit attack for the Revs offense. Tracy drove in a team-best four runs, while Patterson came within a home run of the cycle.
Notes: York is a season-high 13 games over .500 at 39-26, and one win shy of tying the club record for wins in a first half, set in 2010. York's two-game division lead ties a season-high. Wilson Valdez stole his 28th base of the season in the third inning, tying Grimes' single season club record established in 2010. The Revs have hit 12 home runs over their last five games and improve to 25-3 when hitting a home run this season. York is now batting .366 (68-186) with 43 runs on the current five-game winning streak, while having outscored opponents 34-4 over the last four games. The Revs have scored two first inning runs in five of the first six games on the current homestand, while scoring once in the first inning in the other game; York has outscored opponents 11-0 in the first inning on the homestand and 57-40 in the first inning for the season. Justin Greene's fifth inning infield single extended his hitting streak to 13 consecutive games; his streak of extending that hitting streak when leading off the first inning came to an end after nine consecutive games. York's Corey Thurman (3-1, 3.97) will face Southern Maryland's Daryl Thompson (1-2, 5.34) on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on-sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
