Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
The Skeeters have now won three games in a row after taking a 6-3 victory over the Riversharks tonight at Constellation Field. With the win tonight, Sugar Land holds a 2-0 advantage over Camden so far this series and improve to a 35-29 record in 2014.
Steve Hammod (6.0,7,1,1,2,4) made his 13th start of the season tonight and allowed just one run off of seven hits with four strikeouts before the end of his frame. The lefty earned his fourth win of the year tonight and improves to a 4-5 record overall. The team has now won six straight games with Hammond as their starter.
Left fielder Ryan Langerhans (1x1, R, RBI, 3 BB) led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk and was advanced to third on a line drive up the middle from shortstop Taylor Harbin (2x4, R, RBI). A sacrifice fly ball to right field from center fielder Brian Barton (0x2, RBI) would then bring in Langerhans for the first run of the game.
After a few quiet innings, Right fielder Neil Medchill (1x4, R) started the fifth inning with a single to left-center field. The next batter, third baseman Dominic Ramos (0x4),then placed a bunt perfectly down the first base line and was able to record a hit as Medchill moved to second. Langerhans was walked the next batter, and despite Harbin hitting into a double play, Medchill was able to cross the plate and give the Skeeters a 2-1 lead.
Starting off the bottom of the seventh was second baseman Chase Lambin (0x2, R, RBI), who got a free pass from the pitcher and would move into scoring position on second base after Medchill sacrificed a grounder to the opposing second baseman. Ramos also got on with a walk before Langerhans roped a single to right field that allowed Lambin to cross home plate. Harbin followed Lambin with a double deep to left field that brought home Ramos for the second score of the inning. Barton and catcher Travis Scott (0x2, RBI, 2 BB) were both then walked, which pushed Langerhans home and gave the Skeeters yet another run. With Harbin sitting at third, the Rivershark pitcher lost threw a wild pitch and allowed the base runner to tally up the fourth and final run of the inning, giving the Sugar Land a 6-1 lead heading into the top of the eighth.
Left-hander Ben Kozlowski (1.2,0,0,0,0,0) took over the mound in the top of the seventh and pitched 1.2 innings without allowing a run or a hit. Roy Corcoran (1.1,3,2,2,0,2) tossed 1.1 innings and gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts was able to keep the game from entering the bottom of the ninth after coming in with two outs in the top of the eighth to relieve Kozlowski.
