Tourists take three in a row

May 29, 2006 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release

Daniel Carte's third home run of the season, a classy pitching display by Chaz Roe, and five runs scored in the third inning were just some of the highlights of the Tourist's third successive win against Kannapolis.

Roe, making his second professional start with the Tourists, recorded his first win, keeping the visitors down to just one run in six innings of pitching, striking out eight. The victory was sealed by the bullpen combination of Bailey, Vargas, and Patton, who pitched an inning each, allowing only two hits collectively, neither of the hits reaching second base.

The big offensive inning for the Tourists was the third, when the Tourists batted around the order for the first time in this home stand. Nelson Robledo led off with a single, and then moved to second to accomodate John Restrepo, who walked. Jason Van Kooten then loaded the bases up with a bunt single, beating out the throw of pitcher Derek Rodriguez.Chris Nelson then grounded into a force out, Robledo called out at home plate for the first out of the inning, leaving bases still loaded. Rodriguez then walked Phillip Cuadrado, bringing home John Restrepo to score. Daniel Carte then stepped up to hammer a line drive double into right field to score two runs, his tenth double of the season, and Cole Garner followed him by hitting a two-RBI single into left field during the next at bat.

All this came after the Tourists had taken the lead in the previous inning, courtesy of Daniel Carte's third home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field wall. Carte would end the game two for four, with three RBI's - he was the only Tourist hitter to hit for extra bases tonight.

Jason Van Kooten hit three singles in his four at bats, and one of those singles helped contrive the sixth and final run for Asheville in the fourth inning. His single moved John Restrepo from first to third, and Christopher Nelson earned the RBI with a ground out in the next at bat.

The third win in succession, and the fourth out of seven in this homestand, was greatly enjoyed by the 3,106 crowd, who also enjoyed some fantastic Memorial Day fireworks as well.

The final game of this home stand begins at 11.05am, the Tourist's third Education Day of the season.
