Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Three Greenville Drive pitchers combined for a one-hit shutout and Tony Granadillo belted two home runs as the Drive defeated the Augusta GreenJackets Monday afternoon 5-0 at West End Field. The win improved the Drive to 26-25 on the season.
Starting pitcher Chris Jones (3-0) tossed 6.0 no-hit innings allowing just two GreenJackets to reach base, one by a hit by pitch and one by an error, while striking out seven before giving way to Ismael Casillas. Casillas pitched 2.0 shutout innings allowing just one hit to Anthony Contreras, the first batter he faced. Blake Maxwell then put the finishing touches on Augusta by pitching a perfect ninth inning.
After three and a half scoreless innings, the Drive broke the scoreless tie when Granadillo led off the inning with his first home run of the game. It was his fourth homer of the season.
In the bottom of the seventh the Drive added three more runs to extend their lead to 4-0. Logan Sorensen led off the inning with a triple off GreenJackets reliever Sergio Romo. Sorensen then scored on Yahmed Yema's sacrifice fly. After Jeff Natale doubled and Mark Wagner fouled out, Granadillo cracked his second home run of the game.
Greenville would finish their scoring with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Mitch Stachowsky led off the inning with a double to left field and advanced to third on Christian Lara's single. Jay Johnson, whose hitting streak came to an end at six games, knocked in Stachowsky with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Drive and GreenJackets conclude their four-game series Tuesday night at West End Field with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Greenville will send right-hander Clay Buchholz to the mound as Augusta will counter with right-hander Shairon Martis.
