CHARLESTON, SC - Chris Nelson, Cole Garner and Eric Young, Jr. each homered to lead a 15-run attack as the Asheville Tourists swept a doubleheader from the Charleston RiverDogs, 6-2 and 9-5, in South Atlantic League action Sunday at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

With the pair of four-run victories, Asheville improves to 13-11 in the season's second half (48-46 overall) and snaps a six-game losing skid, while Charleston falls to 12-12 in the second half (50-44 overall).

With the score tied at 1 in game two, Asheville scored three times in the fourth inning against loser David Seccombe (4-4), as Phillip Cuadrado and Nate Anderson each singled home runs. Sandwiched between the two RBI hits was a Christopher Cook groundout RBI.

Nelson smacked a 2-run home run in the fifth inning against Daniel McCutchen for a 6-2 cushion. It was his sixth of the season.

Asheville starter Alan Johnson (9-4) picked up the victory as he went six complete innings and scattered three hits while striking out seven. Seccombe, who pitched the fourth inning, suffered the loss after being charged with three runs on three hits.

Charleston scored a run in the first on Ben Jones' RBI single and added another tally in the fourth when C.J. Henry scored on a throwing error.

The RiverDogs recorded only three hits on the night with Jones, Austin Jackson and Tim Battle each collecting one. Asheville pitching retired the final 10 Charleston batters.

In the first game of the series, which began Saturday night and resumed Sunday after a rainstorm, the Tourists employed the long ball to defeat the RiverDogs, 9-5.

Left fielder Garner belted his team-leading 13th homer of the season, a solo shot to left center, while Young, Jr. drilled a 3-run bomb to right to highlight Asheville's 10-hit attack. Each of the blasts came against Jim Conroy, who took over following the second rain delay of contest in relief of starter Zach Kroenke (5-5).

Garner and Kyle Blumenthal each had a pair of RBIs while Garner, Michael Paulk and Jason Van Kooten each had two knocks for Asheville, which led 7-0 after six innings.

Austin Jackson led the RiverDogs offensively with three hits, while four different Charleston players drove home one run.

Asheville's Buzz Vargas (1-2) picked up the win as he pitched four complete innings following the rain Saturday, in the process surrendering two hits and fanning a pair. Jonathan George collected his second save of the campaign, while Kroenke (5-5) suffered the loss after allowing one unearned run Saturday.

Game 3 of this four-game series is set for 7:05 pm Monday night with Charleston sending Bryan Villalona (7-5, 3.57 ERA) to the hill and Asheville countering with southpaw Xavier Cedeno (5-6, 3.96 ERA).
