
Sand Gnats fend off Intimidators

Kannapolis, NC; Kannapolis (7-16) lost to Savannah (12-12), by a final score of 12-8, Sunday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
The Intimidators picked up an early 1-0 in the 1st on a Fernando Valenzuela solo shot to right. Savannah tied it up in the 2nd as Alex Nunez plated Scott Schade with a single. Savannah took a 5-1 lead in the 3rd with runs on a wild-pitch, a 2-run single from Ofilio Castro, and an RBI double from Brian Peacock. I's starter Rafael Flores did not escape the ambush of runs; he was pulled with one out in the inning. Flores (2-2) wound up taking the loss, allowing 5 ER in 2.1 IP. After Savannah scored twice in the top of the 6th, Aaron Cunningham blasted a solo homerun to left in the bottom half of the inning. In the same inning, Kannapolis picked up a 2-run double from Javy Castillo to make it 7-5, and cap off the 4-run inning. The Intimidators would not make it any closer. Savannah prevailed 12-8. Bryan Lambert picked up the win for the Gnats to improve to 2-4 on the season.
Kannapolis continues its 4-game series with Savannah on Monday at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Intimidators RHP Derek Rodriguez opposes Savannah's RHP David Trahan. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
