(Eastlake, OH)--Tom Cowley and Matt Loberg combined on a one-hit shutout against the Hagerstown Suns Sunday afternoon as the Captains captured a 4-0 win at Classic Park.

Cowley (3-4) started and worked the first seven innings, allowing only a bunt single by Jose Castro leading off the fourth inning. Castro was caught stealing.

The only other runner to reach base for the Suns was Nick Evans, who was walked twice by Cowley. No Suns runner reached second base. Cowley struck out seven.

Cowley, a 22-year-old lefthander, lowered his ERA to 1.73. In his last five starts, he has allowed just five runs over 31 innings. It was his second straight one-hit performance against the Suns. He also held the Suns to one hit in six innings on July 5th, but lost 1-0.

Loberg entered the game in the eighth and retired all six hitters he faced to complete the whitewash.

The Captains (14-9) notched their fourth shutout of the season. It was the first one-hitter this season, and the fourth in Captains history. The last one-hitter occured on April 25, 2005, against West Virginia at Classic Park.

Juan Valdes lead off the first inning with a solo homer off Waner Mateo (0-3). Omar Casillas singled in a run in the fifth, and Fernando Pacheco added a two-run single in the sixth off Brandon Nall.

Johnny Drennen went 0-3 to snap his 12-game hitting streak. Drennen entered Sunday ranked second in the SAL in hitting. He is now hitting .326.

The Captains have won seven of the last eight games, and will entertain Hagerstown in game three of the series on Monday night at 7:05. The Captains will be home on Monday and Tuesday before heading to West Virginia for a four-game series Thursday through Sunday. For tickets call 440-954-WINS.
