
Two run twelfth inning leads Hickory to seventh straight win

The Hickory Crawdads won a seventh consecutive game coming from behind to beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-4 in twelve innings Sunday night at L.P. Frans Stadium. Trailing 4-3 with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the twelfth, Hickory LF Wanell Macia hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field. When the throw from CF Lorenzo Scott got away from Delmarva catcher Kyle Dahlberg, Hickory DH Mike McCuision scored for the game winner.
The Shorebirds had taken the lead in the top of the twelfth against Hickory reliever Jean Garavito. With one out, Delmarva 2B Stuart Musslewhite singled. Dahlberg was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, 1B Zach Dillon hit a ground ball to shortstop that got past Cameron Blair to give Delmarva a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the twelfth against reliever Tony Neal, Hickory 2B Shelby Ford led off with a single. Back-to-back walks to CF Andrew McCutchen and McCuision loaded the bases. After RF Brad Corley hit a ground ball to first base that resulted in a force at home, Macia came up for his first at bat of the game and hit the fly to center that won the game for the âDads.
Garavito (7-6) worked one inning and gave up one unearned run to earn the win. Neal (1-2) allowed two runs (one earned) while recording two outs in the loss. Hickory starter Todd Redmond gave up two runs on seven hits in seven innings. Delmarva starter David Hernandez allowed two runs on six hits in six and two-third frames.
The game was scoreless until the seventh inning. Delmarva tallied twice against Redmond on Scott's two out, two RBI single. Hickory answered with two in the bottom of the seventh on Blair's two out, two RBI single.
Each team tallied in the eighth inning. Delmarva got an unearned run when RF Arturo Rivas came home on a Dahlberg single. Rivas had reached on an error. The âDads got a two out RBI single from RF Brad Corley plating Ford.
The two teams play at 7pm Monday night. Hickory right hander Luis Valdez meets Delmarva righty Brad Bergesen.
