Asheville Tourists News Release
(Asheville, NC) - On yet another rainy day at McCormick field, the Asheville Tourists jumped on the board first before the weather ceased play with Asheville ahead, 3-1. The Tourists found a way to put up the first tallies of the game in the bottom of the third inning. After a one-two-three inning for Augusta in the top of the third, Tyler Massey lined a single into left field to lead off the bottom of the inning, managed to steal second, and finally advance to third on a balk by pitcher Aaron King. Thomas Field immediately followed with a shot of his own to left field, taking two bases and driving Massey home. While Delta Cleary did not manage to get on base, his groundout allowed Field to advance to third with one away. Scott Robinson supplemented the Tourists' count with an RBI triple ripped into left-center field, plating Field to give Asheville a 2-0 lead. Jordan Pacheco refused to strand a man on third, and his sacrifice fly to center field made that a reality, bringing Robinson home and increasing the lead to 3-0.
Augusta quickly mounted a comeback, as Tourists starter Parker Frazier got off to a rocky start in the top of the fourth. Walking the first batter Josh Mazzola, Frasier then gave up a single to Juan Perez. Despite the ensuing double-play, Mazzola advanced to third base, and as the rain began to pour down harder, Frasier threw a wild pitch, allowing Mazzola to tap the plate and inch closer to the Tourists, 3-1. Frasier then walked a second Greenjacket, who advanced to second on yet another wild pitch. After hitting James Simmons by pitch, Frasier's night was ended abruptly as the skies opened and the rain postponed play.
The game will resume from that point tomorrow, Sunday, May 17th, to be followed by Sunday's regularly scheduled contest. The resumption of tonight's game will begin at 2:05 with Augusta's Ehire Adrianza at the plate with runners on first and second base and two outs. Sunday's regularly scheduled game will become a seven-inning affair, to begin about a half hour following the conclusion of game one. Asheville's pitcher to begin the conclusion of tonight's game is to be announced, with LHP Christian Friedrich (3-1, 1.32) going up against Augusta RHP Kyle Nicholson (1-4, 5.40).
