Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to break a late deadlock and beat the Lakewood BlueClaws 7-2 on Saturday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
Kannapolis and Lakewood were knotted at 2-2 at the seventh inning stretch, but the Intimidators scored three in the seventh and two in the eighth to rally for victory. Jim Murphy, who hit the game-winning home run on Friday night for the BlueClaws, saw an Eduardo Escobar groundball go through his legs to allow the winning run to come in and score. Two of the three runs scored in the seventh went as unearned.
Escobar was one of five Kannapolis hitters to record multi-hit ballgames. Jordan Cheatham led the way with a three-for-four evening with an RBI and a stolen base.
Lakewood took an early lead against Intimidators (18-17) starter Dexter Carter in the first with an RBI double from Travis d'Arnaud. The lead did not last as Kannapolis rallied, using a Sergio Morales homer to tie the score.
Carter went six innings and gave up two runs on seven hits. He matched his season-high with 11 strikeouts.
Tyson Corley (2-0) took the win with one inning of relief. Leroy Hunt and Dan Remenowsky each added a scoreless frame out of the bullpen.
Santo Hernandez (1-1) took the loss after giving up three runs, one earned. Jesus Sanchez, the Lakewood (19-15) starter did not factor in the decision with six innings of work.
