A double and a two-out error led to a tie-breaking run in the ninth inning as the Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Lexington Legends 3-2 at Applebee's Park Saturday night.

The Legends had taken a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Brian Pellegrini, who joined the team Saturday after starting the season at high-A Lancaster, California, doubled in his first at-bat. Pellegrini, who led the Legends with 21 homers and 69 RBIs in 2008, came around to score on a single by Freddie Hernandez. Hernandez advanced to third on two wild pitches, and came home on a ground out by Brandon Barnes.

The Sand Gnats tied it in the sixth. With one out, Josh Satin singled and Sean Ratliff doubled, sending Satin to third. Eric Campbell struck out, but Raul Reyes blooped a single into left center field, scoring Satin and Ratliff to make it 2-2.

It stayed that way until the top of the ninth. With one out, Kai Gronauer doubled, but Jose Jimenez struck out for the second out. Jefry Marte then grounded to shortstop Jorge De Leon, whose throw sailed over the head of first baseman Phil Disher, allowing Gronauer to score.

Josh Stinson (1-1), who got the win in relief, allowed a ninth-inning single by Pellegrini, who was left stranded at first. Henry Villar (0-1) took the loss in relief for Lexington.

Pellegrini was one of three players to join the Legends Saturday. Outfielder Marques Williams and left-handed pitcher Michael Hacker were called up from extended spring training. Williams was in the starting lineup in left field. Relief pitcher Danny Meszaros, who was tied for the South Atlantic League lead in saves with nine, was called up to AA Corpus Christi. Outfielder Nathan Metroka was sent to extended spring training, and first baseman-DH Kody Hinze left for his hometown of Houston for personal reasons.

Lexington and Savannah will meet in game three of the four-game series Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
