DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Tortugas put up three runs in a decisive sixth inning to beat the St. Lucie Mets 5-3 on Friday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The teams were tied 1-1 entering the fifth inning. Reydel Medina hit the first pitch of the inning for a double. After Mets starter Nabil Crismatt struck out back-to-back hitters, Blake Butler drove a 0-2 pitch for a RBI double that put the Tortugas up 2-1.
Crismatt came out to start the sixth and surrendered a double and a two-run homer to Narciso Crook that made it 4-1. Alfredo Rodriguez followed with a single that knocked Crismatt out of the game. Rodriguez later came in to score on Mitch Piatnik's second bunt single of the game to make it 5-1.
Nick Sergakis tried to spark the Mets offense to life in the eighth with a two-out, two-run double off of Robert Stock, but the Mets couldn't muster any more offense.
Dale Burdick led off the ninth with a single to bring up the tying run, but Stock struck out two batters and Burdick was caught stealing second to end the game.
Crismatt became the first Mets starter in a week to pitch five innings. He allowed five runs on nine hits while striking out a season-high eight batters.
Daytona's Jake Paulson tossed three no-hit innings of relief to earn the win.
Anthony Dimino and Jeff Diehl both went 2 for 3 for the Mets.
The Mets (7-9) and Tortugas (8-8) play the second game of their series at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
