CLEARWATER, Fla. - Cole Irvin dealt seven strong innings, but was out-dueled by Florida's Luiz Gohara as the Threshers dropped the series opener, 3-1 to the Fire Frogs on Bark at the Ballpark night at Spectrum Field.

The Threshers saw their three-game win streak halted, but remain atop the Florida State League with an 11-5 record.

Herlis Rodriguez battled through a 13-pitch at-bat in the eighth inning and delivered his third home run of the season, accounting for Clearwater's only run of the night.

Irvin (2-1) took the loss despite holding the Fire Frogs (7-9) to three runs - one earned - in seven innings. The lefty scattered eight hits and a walk while striking out seven.

Irvin and Gohara (2-0) traded zeros until the fourth, when Florida managed to push across a run with two outs.

After a pair of groundouts started the inning, Austin Riley lined a single to right, and Alex Jackson dropped a double to left that found the corner, allowing Riley to score from first with the game's first run.

Florida added two unearned runs in the seventh.

A bunt single and a walk opened the inning, before Irvin struck out Carlos Castro and got Alejandro Salazar to fly out to shallow center. An error on third baseman Jan Hernandez permitted a run to score and extended the inning, before Ray-Patrick Didder reached on an infield hit to short. A third run crossed on the play, before Omar Obregon was thrown out after overrunning third to end the inning.

Gohara held Clearwater scoreless through seven innings, surrendering only four hits and a walk to earn the win.

Rodriguez's homer came in the eighth against Devan Watts, who worked the final two frames for his third save. After falling down in the count two strikes, Rodriguez fouled off seven pitches and took three to run the count full before lifting one out to the berm in right to get Clearwater on the board, making it 3-1.

The Threshers look to even up the series on Star Wars Night, when Alberto Tirado (1-0) takes the hill against lefty Tyler Pike (0-1). First pitch is set for 6:15 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6 p.m.
