Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that Keys relief pitcher, Dennis Torres, has been promoted to the Double-A Bowie Baysox. The former UMass standout becomes the fourth member of the orange and black to get a call-up this season and the third Frederick player to move up in the last four days. This is the 25-year-old's first call-up to Double-A. In addition to Torres, Jarett Miller and Jhonathan Ramos have been promoted to Double-A this year, while Anthony Caronia played three games for Triple-A Norfolk.
In 12 relief appearances for the Keys this season, Torres went 3-1 with one save and a 1.88 ERA. He allowed only five earned runs in 24 innings to go along with 11 walks and 16 strikeouts. Opponents were batting only .202 against him, the fourth-lowest mark for a Carolina League reliever. In eight May appearances he went 2-1 with a 2.35 ERA (15.1 IP/4ER).
Originally selected by the Orioles in the 28th round of the 2012 draft out UMass, Torres went a combined 3-5 with a 3.50 ERA between stops in Frederick and Low-A Delmarva in 2014 and finished fifth among Orioles farmhands in saves (nine). With the Keys he went 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA after being called up right after the All-Star break.
The Frederick Keys begin a seven-game homestand on Wednesday night when the Salem Red Sox come to town at 7:00 p.m. Left-hander Mitch Horacek (3-4, 3.63) makes the start for the Keys and will be opposed by Red Sox righty Denny Bautista (0-0, --). Wednesday is "It's Snow Problem Night" at Nymeo Field and the first 500 fans will receive a Nymeo Field grass seed giveaway. It is also "Stand Together for Kindness Night" presented by the Maryland Governor's Office for Children. For tickets fans can contact the Keys at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
The Frederick Keys are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and play their home games at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. For more information about the Frederick Keys please contact Geoff Arnold by phone at (301)-815-9915 or by emailing at GArnold@FrederickKeys.com.
