Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 27, 2015) - The Winston-Salem Dash offense struggled again in a 4-2 loss Tuesday to open up their series against the Lynchburg Hillcats at BB&T Ballpark.

With the score tied at two in the sixth, Dash (18-28) starter Robinson Leyer (1-5) issued a one-out walk to Bradley Zimmer, who stole second base. A Nellie Rodriguez single advanced Zimmer to third before an RBI groundout off the bat of Alex Monsalve gave Lynchburg (18-28) a 3-2 lead.

That was all the Hillcats would need, as starter Luis Lugo (3-2) combined with Justin Brantley to retire the final 16 Dash batters.

Lugo fanned six against three walks with two runs allowed in 6.0 frames, while Brantley pitched three perfect innings for his first save of 2015

Leyer, who surrendered three runs on five hits with six strikeouts in 6.0 innings, retired the first 11 men he faced, but gave up a two-out double to Zimmer in the fourth. Rodriguez, the next batter, smoked a home run beyond the berm in left to put the Hillcats on top 2-0.

Winston-Salem responded immediately in the bottom of the frame. Jake Peter led off with an infield single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Trey Michalczewski walk put runners on first and second with nobody out. Three batters later, Keenyn Walker's bloop single into right plated both runners to tie the game at two.

The Hillcats doubled their lead to 4-2 on Rodriguez's RBI double in the eighth.

Jake Cose (1-1, 1.57 ERA) makes the start for the Dash on Thursday against Lynchburg's Mitch Brown (1-4, 6.25 ERA). Pregame coverage is available at 6:45 p.m., with first pitch at 7 p.m. on 600 AM-WSJS and the TuneIn app.

Thursday's contest is a Thirsty Thursday, with select beers available for just $1. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
