Austin Spurs News Release

AUSTIN, Texas, March 30, 2006 - Community recognition and honor highlights a weekend of basketball action as the Austin Toros host the league-leading Fort Worth Flyers at the Austin Convention Center in back-to-back weekend games. Tip-off is 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Teacher Appreciation Night, recognizing educators in the Austin and surrounding area school districts, tips off the two-game homestand. Area teachers, school administrators as well as students are encouraged to wear their school T-shirts and colors to show their school spirit. Local Teacher of the Year honorees as well as their principals will participate in various in-game activities and be recognized in an on-court ceremony.

Youth 14-and-under attending Saturday's game will receive a free book, bookmark, and sticker, compliments of the Toros Read to Achieve program. Plus, teachers from Andrew's, Norman and Dawson Elementary Schools, who have worked with the Toros Read to Achieve program throughout the 2005-06 academic school year, will receive a free ticket to the game courtesy of BAE Systems. The Toros Read to Achieve program is sponsored by Glimmer of Hope Austin and BAE Systems.

Sunday's game offers a wide array of events and special presentations. It's Andre Emmett Kid's Bobblehead Day and all kids in attendance ages 14-and-under will receive a bobblehead resembling the Toros guard courtesy of Austin Cab.

Westwood High School head boy's basketball coach Dennis Burton, who announced his retirement last month from the school he helped open in 1981, will be recognized in a special on-court ceremony and participate in the Toros honorary tip prior to the game.

The Toros are proud to join forces with the Council on At-Risk Youth (CARY) for Sunday's game. In recognition of the CARY/TOROS partnership, 50 percent of every ticket sold through the not for profit organization will be donated to CARY. To celebrate this unique partnership, Austin Mayor Will Wynn and AISD Superintendent Pascal Forgione will attend the game as well as make a special address to fans on the prevention of youth violence.
