
Flame Sign Elton Brown, Waive McNeil

FORT MYERS, Fla., March 30 - According to an announcement by Head Coach Jeff Malone, the Florida Flame has acquired forward Elton Brown from the NBA Development League available player pool. Brown takes the roster spot vacated when forward Jeremy McNeil suffered a season-ending injury on March 25 versus Roanoke.
Brown, a 6-9, 255-pound forward played collegiately at the University of Virginia ('05) and most recently played professionally in Greece for Makedonikos. The rookie finished his college career ranked 20th on Virginia's all-time scoring list with 1,356 points and 13th on the Cavaliers rebounding list with 660 overall. In his four-year career at Virginia, Brown averaged 11.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 22.3 minutes per contest in 123 total games, starting 73 overall.
As a senior in 2004-05, Brown led the Cavaliers and finished fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in rebounding (8.1). Brown was also Virginia's second-leading scorer at 12.8 points per game and posted 11 double-doubles, ranking third in the ACC. The 22-year-old led the team in rebounding in 21 games and scored in double figures in 21 of 29 games during the 2004-05 campaign.
Brown earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors as a junior in 2003-04, averaging a team-best 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. The Newport News, Va. native ranked second in the ACC in field goal percentage (50.3 percent) and 10th in scoring.
Brown is expected to be in uniform for the Flame in their next game at Arkansas on April 1. He will wear jersey No. 34.
McNeil appeared in just two games for Florida after being acquired on March 21. The 6-8, forward averaged 4.0 points in 6.5 minutes per contest.
Florida (22-21) opens a four-game road trip this Saturday, April 1, as the Flame travels to face the Arkansas RimRockers (23-21). Tip-off at Alltell Arena in Little Rock is 8:30 p.m. ET. All the action for Saturday's game can be heard live on Kingdom FM 91.5. Following that contest, the Flame will round out its road swing with games at Arkansas on Sunday, April 2, at Fort Worth on Tuesday, April 4, and Tulsa on Wednesday, April 5 before returning to Southwest Florida for the regular season finale against Fayetteville on Saturday, April 8.
With five regular season games remaining, the Flame (22-21) are currently tied for fifth place in the D-League standings with Austin (23-22), just one-half game out of fourth place and the final playoff spot behind the Arkansas (23-21). Florida and Austin trail the two teams tied for second place, Roanoke (24-21) and Albuquerque (23-20), by one game.
The Florida Flame is the official D-League affiliate of the NBA's Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Orlando Magic. Showcasing the best young talent in professional basketball outside of the NBA, the Flame play a 48-game schedule during the 2005-06 season with 23 home games at Germain Arena.
