Arkansas RimRockers News Release
Little Rock, Arkansas March 30 - The Tulsa 66ers won the season series against the Arkansas RimRockers 6-2. Although the RimRockers (23-22) outscored the 66ers (20-23) 22-20 in the fourth quarter, it wasn't enough to defeat the 66ers who built a steady lead throughout the entire contest.
The RimRockers jumped out to an early lead, but former RimRocker Shawnson Johnson, John Lucas and Otis George combined for 27 points to quickly steal the lead. A 10-point effort by Clay Tucker kept the RimRockers close enough to close the gap, but the 66ers ended the quarter leading the RimRockers 34-32.
Tulsa took over in the second quarter, outscoring the RimRockers 34-21. The 66ers made 14 of 18 field goal shots and dished out 13 unselfish assists while the RimRockers only served up 3. Desmon Farmer poured in 11 big points for Tulsa during the second period.
At the end of the first half, Tulsa led the RimRockers 65-53. The 66ers had 7 points off of second-chance points, largely in part to their ability to out rebound the RimRockers 22-13.
"I knew this team was hungry coming in," RimRockers head coach Andy Stoglin said. "If they lose any more games, they'll be out of playoff contention. They sure did play with heart tonight. We just got out-played, plain and simple."
Tulsa came back after the break still on fire and sufficiently distanced themselves from the Rockers. John Lucas and Farmer each added two treys a piece and the 66ers ended the third quarter leading 103-83.
The RimRockers began the final quarter with a 21 point deficit to overcome, but didn't quite achieve their goal. Although Tulsa's Ersaon Ilyasova was the only player to reach a double-double (21 points, 12 rebounds), the RimRockers Myron Allen led the game in points with 27.
Both teams had plenty of scorers for the night, but it was Tulsa's ability to out-shoot the RimRockers 62 percent to 45.9 percent. Tulsa had six players to finish in double figures, including a 26 point effort by Farmer, while the RimRockers had seven players to finish in double figures.
The RimRockers play next at Alltel Arena on April 1 against the Florida Flame. Tip-off is set for 7:30 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
