Toronto Marlies News Release
Last Week
This past week the Marlies began their annual November road trip courtesy of the Royal Winter Fair occupying Ricoh Coliseum. The first three games came against the reigning Calder Cup Champion Texas Stars, the San Antonio Rampage and the Oklahoma City Barons. Eager for a rematch against the Stars, who eliminated Toronto from the playoffs last season, the Marlies would be unable to exact revenge. Despite a strong effort, particularly from goaltender Christopher Gibson who made 34 saves in the losing effort, Toronto fell 3-1.
Spencer Abbott scored the lone goal for the Marlies. The team would then travel to San Antonio to take on the Rampage, affiliate of the Florida Panthers. The Marlies would win a hard fought battle by a score of 3-2 receiving scoring from Trevor Smith, Tom Nilsson and Connor Brown. Christopher Gibson continued his strong play making 40 saves, including one on a penalty shot against Mark Mancari. The last leg of the trip brought Toronto to Oklahoma City to face the Barons, affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. With a depleted lineup, the Marlies gave the Barrons all they could handle. Brad Ross, Greg McKegg and Tyler Biggs would all score for the Marlies while Cal Heeter, joining the team on a PTO, would make 48 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss. The game winning goal came courtesy of Curtis Hamilton.
