Last Week: The Toronto Marlies opened their 2013-14 regular season with a 4-3 overtime win over the defending champion Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. T.J.
Brennan registered the first four-point game on opening night in franchise history. In his first game as captain, Trevor Smith notched the game winning goal on a powerplay with just over three minutes remaining in overtime.
Drew MacIntyre stopped 27 of 30 shots to earn his first victory of the season.
In their second half of back-to-back games, Toronto defeated the Lake Erie Monsters, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, by a score of 5-1. Trevor Smith tallied two goals and an assist while Drew MacIntyre made 20 saves to earn his second victory in as many days.
Six players that started the season on the Marlies roster have already been called up by the Maple Leafs: Spencer Abbott, T.J.
Look Ahead: In their lone game this coming week, Toronto will host the St. John's IceCaps, AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets, on Saturday at 3 p.m.
The IceCaps opened their 2013-14 campaign by taking three out of a possible four points in two home games against Providence. Eric O'Dell leads the team with four goals, while Goaltender Eddie Pasquale started both games for St. John's, posting a goals against average of 2.47 and a 0.925 save percentage.
Saturday's game can be seen live on Rogers TV and heard on the TSN 1050 radio network.
