Binghamton Senators News Release

LAST WEEK...

Saturday, Oct. 5: Binghamton 4, Syracuse 3 OT

Shots: Binghamton 39, Syracuse 35

PP: Binghamton 1 for 4, Syracuse 0 for 3

The Binghamton Senators opened it's 2013-2014 regular season at home versus East Division rival, the Syracuse Crunch, in a dramatic fashion. Playing for the first time in the newly renovated Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena, the B-Sens impressed the home crowd with a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime victory.

After a scoreless first period, Syracuse was able to tally a marker just 1:24 into the second period on a goal by Dana Tyrell. However, the Senators Derek Grant decided to pick up right where he left off last season by notching a shorthanded goal just over two minutes later to even the score at one apiece. Before time in the second expired, Syracuse was able to add two more goals by Dana Tyrell and Evan Rankin, respectively.

Entering the third period down by two, the B-Sens picked up it's offensive intensity. Corey Cowick started the comeback with a rebound goal off Cody Ceci's shot. Under three minutes later, Mika Zibanejad sniped a power-play goal over Crunch goalie, Cedrick Desjardins' right shoulder tying the game at three all.

The overtime period offered chances for both teams to take the game, but it was B-Sens defenseman Cody Ceci who received a pass from Andre Petersson in the Crunch zone, making a defender miss before burying the game winner. Ceci received the games first star of the game for his two point night (1+12).

Binghamton Senators starting goalie, Nathan Lawson, turned aside 32 of the 35 shots he faced to receive the victory, while Desjardins stopped 36 of 39 shots faced in a losing effort.

Record: 1-0-0-0

Standings: The B-Sens are tied with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for second in the East Division with two points.

The B-Sens travel to Norfolk to take on the Admirals in back-to-back games this weekend. The games will be the first two of eight total meetings between the teams this season.

The Admirals enter the week with a record of 1-0-0-1 and lead the East Division with three points.

SENS SNIPPETS...

Center Derek Grant scored a shorthanded goal to open the 2013-2014 regular season... last year Grant lead the AHL with five shorthanded tallies on the year, while the B-Sens as a team lead all others with 19.

Rookie defenseman Cody Ceci picked up his first career multi-point game in the B-Sens Saturday opening night victory over the Crunch. Ceci finished with a goal and an assist- his goal being the decisive overtime tally.

B-SENS BRINGING IT HOME TO THE COMMUNITY...

On Tuesday, October 8, the players and coaches took part in the 9th Annual B-Sens Charity Golf Classic. The captain and crew tournament, which for the third consecutive year benefitted the Wendy's Walk for Kids program, took place at Traditions at the Glen. This year over 30 teams of five golfers (four fans and one B-Sens player/coach) hit the links to raise money for local charities that benefit from the Wendy's Walk for Kids efforts. Following the round of 18, all teams were invited to dinner where a silent auction and raffles helped in the fundraising efforts.
