
Toronto Marlies Announce Opening Night Roster

Toronto Marlies News Release
The Toronto Marlies announced their opening night roster today, ahead of tonight's game against the Manitoba Moose. The team consists of 16 forwards, seven defencemen and three goaltenders. A total of 16 players spent time last season within the Toronto Maple Leafs organization as either a member of the Maple Leafs or Marlies. Of the 26 players on the roster 12 players were drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs, 10 were acquired via free agency and the remaining four were acquired through trades. Seven rookies will make their debut this coming season, highlighted by 2013 first round selection Frederik Gauthier, 2014 third round selection Rinat Valiev and off-season acquisition, 2014 first round selection Kasperi Kapanen. The average age of the group is 23.2 years old.
The Toronto Marlies will be led this season by captain Andrew Campbell while Sam Carrick, Richard Clune, Matt Frattin and T.J. Brennan will serve as alternate captains. Sheldon Keefe enters his first season as head coach of the Marlies and is joined by associate coach Gord Dineen and assistant coach A.J. MacLean.
