Heat Announce Team Captains

Stockton, Calif - The Stockton Heat, proudly owned by the Calgary Flames, announce the team's captains as chosen by the coaching staff. Aaron Johnson will serve as the Stockton Heat's first ever team captain while Turner Elson, Garnet Hathaway and Blair Riley will serve as alternate captains.

Johnson, 32, is entering his 13th season as a pro, and first with the Calgary Flames American Hockey League affiliate. The veteran defenseman has played 401 games at the AHL level to go along with his 291 games of NHL experience. Johnson had previously served as captain of two other AHL clubs the last two seasons.

Elson, 23, has played parts of the last four seasons with the Flames AHL affiliate. He's compiled 99 games with the franchise and had previously been named as a captain with his junior club, the Red Deer Rebels, in 2012-13.

Hathaway, 23, is entering his second full season as a pro after a terrific career at Brown University, serving as the team's alternate captain during his junior and senior seasons. Last season, Hathaway finished tied-second on the Adirondack Flames with 19 goals.

Riley, 29, has played professional hockey for parts of the last six seasons in the AHL and ECHL after completing his career at Ferris State University. Riley has suited up in 285 AHL games in his career and has served as an alternate captain on four previous occasions. While with Ferris State, Riley was the alternate captain during his junior and senior seasons. He was also an alternate captain for two other AHL squads, including the 2014-15 season while with the St. John's IceCaps.

The Heat open up their inaugural season tomorrow night against the Rockford IceHogs at 7:30 p.m. at Stockton Arena.
