Toronto FC Return to Bmo Field to Kick off 2018 Season as Major League Soccer Defending Champions
March 2, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Toronto FC News Release
Fresh from winning an unprecedented domestic treble in 2017 with the Canadian Championship, Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup, Toronto FC return to BMO Field Saturday afternoon to kick-off the 2018 MLS season. The club faces Columbus Crew in a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Championship after a busy off-season which included the additions of Dutch World Cup veteran Gregory van der Wiel, Brazilian winger Auro and Spanish playmaker Ager Aketxe to the club's roster.
Prior to kick-off, a special championship celebration featuring the raising of ten flags at BMO Field's North End will take place. Each flag hoisted will represent a trophy won by Toronto FC in its 11-year history (Six Canadian Championships, two Eastern Conference Championships, one Supporters' Shield and one MLS Cup). Toronto FC alumni Dwayne De Rosario, Danny Dichio and Benoit Cheyrou will participate in the special ceremony by presenting the three trophies the club won last season. Don Garber, MLS Commissioner, Bill Manning, TFC President and Tim Bezbatchenko, TFC Sr. Vice President, Soccer Operations & General Manager will be on field for the ceremony. Tickets to Saturday's game are available to purchase at www.torontofc.ca/tickets.
Ahead of the game, Toronto FC will kick-off the day at Stanley Barracks for an official pre-match rally, presented by Budweiser, Saturday morning. Hundreds of fans can participate in various celebrations leading up to the match including March to the Match led by 416 Beats, games, prizes and an autograph session with Toronto FC alumnus Benoit Cheyrou. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Toronto FC Championship long sleeve shirt and enjoy a free sample from Budweiser. All fans will have an opportunity to get a photo taken with the MLS Cup at the event. Fans with tickets to the game are encouraged to arrive early to witness the special pre-match championship celebration planned prior to kick-off.
More information about Saturday's pre-match rally can be found at www.torontofc.ca/2018/pre-match-rally.
