Game Preview: New England Revolution at Philadelphia Union

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution are set to open the 2018 MLS regular season at Talen Energy Stadium against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday. The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be televised locally on myTV38 (WSBK-TV) with Brad Feldman and Paul Mariner on the call. The contest also airs on the radio, with 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2 broadcasting the action in English and WMVX 1570 AM Nossa Radio providing Portuguese commentary. Fans may also stream the match live on Revolutionsoccer.net.

New Head Coach Brad Friedel will lead the Revs into the first of three meetings between the two sides this season. The Revs will host the Union on Aug. 11, before returning to Talen Energy Stadium for their third and final matchup of the season series on Aug. 25. In the most recent matchup between New England and Philadelphia, the Revs defeated the Union, 3-0, at Gillette Stadium on July 29, 2017. Saturday's contest will be the first time New England and Philadelphia have played each other in a season opening match.

Following the season opener, New England will return to Foxborough to prepare for the club's home opener against the Colorado Rapids at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, March 10. The home opener will be broadcast locally on NBC Sports Boston, 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2, and WMXV 1570 AM Nossa Radio.

Midfielder Kelyn Rowe (28G/38A) needs two more goals to become the fifth member of the Revolution's 30/30 club, joining Diego Fagundez (40G/31A), Shalrie Joseph (37G/34A), Lee Nguyen (51G/49A), and Steve Ralston (42G/73A).

International signings forward Cristian Penilla, defender Gabriel Somi, and midfielder Wilfried Zahibo could potentially make their MLS and Revolution debuts.

There are a pair of notable connections between the Revolution and the Philadelphia Union:

o Revolution Head Coach Brad Friedel and Union Technical Director Earnie Stewart were teammates on the United States Men's National Team at the 1994, 1998, and 2002 FIFA World Cups. Revolution Assistant Coach Mike Lapper and General Manager Michael Burns were also members of the 1994 USMNT World Cup squad.

o Revolution forward Teal Bunbury was a teammate of the Union's C.J. Sapong on Sporting Kansas City from 2011-13.
