Two second-half goals propelled the New York Red Bulls past Club Deportivo Olimpia, 2-0, on Thursday night at Red Bull Arena in the second leg of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16.
New York, with a 3-1 aggregate, advanced to the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League Quarterfinals for the second time in club history.
With a scoreless draw heading into the second half, Bradley Wright-Phillips wasted no time giving the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute. Wright-Phillips dribbled through one defender and ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box past the goalkeeper to the near post.
Minutes later, Tyler Adams fed teammate Sean Davis atop the 18-yard box. Davis took two dribbles to his left and sent a curling shot across his body and deflected off a defender to double lead in the 64th minute.
Wright-Phillipstallied his 101st career goal as a Red Bull across all competitions. It was his second career CONCACAF Champions League goal.
