(WORCESTER, MA) Sunday, August 24, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz were looking for the series sweep and their fourth win in a row on Sunday afternoon against the Worcester Tornadoes. The home team had other plans as they went on to beat the Rapidz 6-4.
The Tornadoes hit like a hurricane in the first inning, scoring four times against Adam Hawes. Scott Grimes and Chris Colabello both scored on a double by Alex Trezza to begin the scoring. Francisco Caraballo followed with his 20th homerun of the season to give the home team a 4-0 lead.
The Rapidz tied the game at four in the sixth inning to chase Kyle Jackson from the game. Kevin Butler singled to lead off the inning, followed by a walk to Jared Lemieux. With one out, Jabe Bergeron singled to score Butler and Kyle Geiger added a two-run double. Geiger then later scored on an RBI single by Jake Daubert to tie the game.
Chuck Jeroloman singled with two outs in the seventh inning to produce the winning run. Caraballo added one run as a result on an error by Butler on a base stealing attempt.
Hawes (4-12) suffered the lost for the Rapidz. In 6.1 innings, the righty conceded five runs (all earned), on six hits with four walks and struck out two batters. The win goes to Ryan Lobban (4-1) who came into the game in relief for Jackson in the sixth inning. He allowed two hits, no runs and no walks, while striking out one batter in 2.2 innings of work. John Birtwell pitched in the ninth to collect his 13th save of the season.
