Brockton Rox News Release

Little Falls, NJ (August 24, 2008) - Melvin Falu's 8th inning single helped complete a five-run comeback as the Rox took the rubber game over the New Jersey Jackals with a 7-5 win.

For the second straight night the Rox trailed early but rallied off New Jersey's relief pitching. The Rox trailed 5-1 entering the seventh inning when Jackals starting pitcher Tom Atlee allowed a pair of leadoff singles to begin the frame. Jackals Manager Joe Calfapietra called upon reliever Dustin Cameron from the bullpen who walked SS Dominic Ramos to load the bases. Cameron then surrendered a bases-clearing double to RF Dennis Abreu to pull the Rox within one run. Abreu later scored to tie the game on a ground ball double play off the bat of 3B Phillip Cuadrado.

New Jersey's bullpen woes continued in the eighth when 2B Melvin Falu's RBI single off reliever Justin Barnes gave Brockton a 6-5 advantage. CF Eugene Julien singled home the insurance run in the ninth for his second RBI of the game.

The Jackals had pulled ahead with an early 4-0 lead in the first inning off Rox starting pitcher Santo Hernandez. Following a pair of doubles to lead off the frame, Hernandez walked Matt Lauderdale and then allowed a three-run home run off the bat of Chris Kelly.

Sunday's win gave the Rox their third straight series victory. Brockton has won four of the last five series in the month of August.

The Rox return to Campanelli Stadium on Monday night to begin a four-game series with the Ottawa Rapidz. RHP Wayne Lundgren (9-3, 3.39 ERA) will pitch for the Rox against RHP Noel Baca III (2-9, 4.15). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
