Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Augusta, NJ -- Andrew Wishy set a Tornadoes franchise record by hitting in his 15th straight game and the Worcester Tornadoes waited out a 2:30 rain delay to defeat the Sussex Skyhawks, 7-4, and win the rubber game of their three-game series.

The long rain delay occurred after the end of the first inning with the game scoreless. When play resumed, the Tornadoes bats showed no rust whatsoever,as Worcester batted around in the top of the 2nd inning, sending 10 men to the plate and scoring 6 runs on 7 hits. Patrick Perry and Dominic Ramos each hit two-run doubles in the inning and Josh and Keith Beauregard chipped in with RBI singles. Wishy started the inning with a single to right, setting the new franchise record-long hitting streak at 15.

Sussex would chip away with two runs in the 4th inning off Chris Shank (1-0) and single runs in the 7th and 8th innings off Matthew Salvato, but the Tornadoes got a two-out RBI single from Euvi Solano in the 5th and John Birtwell put out the fire in the 8th, striking out Ron Perodin as the tying run at the plate to end the inning.

Shank (1-0) picked up the win and Sussex starter Edisbel Benitez (1-4) took the loss. Birtwell pitched the last 1.2 innings for his second save. The Tornadoes return home to host the Brockton Rox for a three-game weekend series. Righty Reid Willett is scheduled to make the start for Worcester on Friday night and he will be opposed by Brockton lefty Rolando Valles. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
