New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ - One horrific inning of defense helped snap New Jersey's eight game winning streak, as they fell to New Haven 6-3 in the final game of a three-game series.

Both starting pitchers cruised through their first two innings of work, until the Jackals got on the scoreboard against Brad Whitworth in the third. Following a two-out double by Jud Thigpen, Sandy Madera sent him home on an RBI single to give the Jackals a 1-0 lead. They'd another run in the fourth, again with two outs, as Joe Mihalics delivered a single.

But the Jackals would commit four errors in the bottom half of the inning, opening the floodgates to five New Haven runs. Junior Zamora crushed a two-run homerun, Kevin Whiteside collected an RBI triple, and Ervin Alcantara added an RBI single in the huge frame. In the inning, Jackals Manager Joe Calfapietra was ejected by the home plate umpire. In the eighth, the Jackals battled back to within two runs via Kuklick's two-out RBI single. The following batter, Clyde Williams, would double, sending Kuklick to third, but Guilleremo Reyes grounded out leaving the tying run at second base.

Matt Hackney's eighth inning solo homerun put the nail in the coffin, giving the Cutters a 6-3 lead.

Brad Whitworth picked up the win for New Haven in seven inning of work. The lefty allowed two runs, both earned, on five hits. He walked three and struck out two. Andy Weimer pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

The loss went to Isaac Pavlik who battled through six and two third innings. He gave up nine hits, five runs, with only one of them being earned. He walked two and struck out seven. It was his first loss of the season.
