Worcester Tornadoes News Release

Becker College, WCRN and the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots are the honored sponsors of what promises to be an outstanding night at the ballpark. Committment to the community is an essential component of the Tornadoes' mission statement, so the team decided to organize the night to honor our Veterans and their families. It was these Veterans who suggested helping children in their name as the theme of the night. As a result, there will be a toy drive at the ballpark on July 3, and fans are asked to drop off a new, unwrapped toy to be donated to children in need. 1st Sgt. Mike Frisoli, who has been involved with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots for 30 years, will be throwing out the first pitch. Sgt. Frisoli has already received more than 800 requests for assistance this upcoming holiday season, a good six months beforehand. The Toys for Tots Foundation was founded by Major Henderson in 1947 in California, and just celebrated its 60th anniversary. Sgt. Frisoli's efforts in Worcester County helped to collect and distribute 54,000 toys to about 5,200 kids in 2007

During the July 3 game at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, Becker College will be on-hand to promote the new Patriots College Access Program, which provides financial and academic assistance for American Military Veterans. Tornadoes staff will also be handing out American flags to everyone who comes through the gate. And of course, the night will be capped off by another phenomenal fireworks spectacular at the ballpark, the team's fourth such show of 2008.

Tickets for the game are available in person by stopping by the Tornadoes box office at the ballpark or at the team office located at 303 Main St. in Worcester, by phone at 508-792-2288 or online by visiting www.worcestertornadoes.com.
