Worcester Tornadoes News Release
Nashua, NH -- Jeff LaHair snapped a three-all tie with a bloop a two-out RBI single to center in the 8th inning, as the Worcester Tornadoes snapped their three-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Nashua Pride in the series finale Thursday night.
The Pride struck first in the game, scoring two runs off Tornadoes starter Alex Pena (3-1) on a two-run single by Olmo Rosario in the 3rd inning to make it 2-0. But Worcester, whose bats had been silenced the last several games, finally busted out in the 5th inning. The Tornadoes sent 8 men to the plate and scored three runs on four hits (RBI singles by Dominic Ramos and Yohanny Valera the big blows in the inning) to go up 3-2. However, former Tornado Austin Wasserman burned his former club with a solo home run to right off Pena in the 6th to tie things up at 3-3.
The Tornadoes, who needed a win to avoid the series sweep, got to another former Tornado, righty Steve Palazzolo (4-1) in the 8th. Chris Colabello ripped a two-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch. After an intentional walk to Keith Beauregard, Jeff LaHair dumped the RBI single to right-center, plating Colabello with what would prove to be the game-winner. Eddie Pena pitched a scoreless 8th and John Birtwell retired the side in order with two strikeouts for the save.
Alex Pena (3-1) picked up the win and Palazzolo (4-1) took the loss. The save for Birtwell was his team-high 4th of the season. The Tornadoes improved to 3-8 in one-run games. Worcester will return home to start a 10-game homestand with the first of three against the Atlantic City Surf starting on Friday night. Lefty Mike Meagher is scheduled to make the start for Worcester. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.
