Worcester Tornadoes News Release
WORCESTER - Chris Colabello's two-run seventh inning home run highlighted a four-run outburst which propelled the Tornadoes to a comeback 5-4 win over the Brockton Rox on Tuesday evening at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
Tom Cochran struggled in six innings, but kept Worcester in the game to set the stage for the comeback. In total, he allowed four runs (all earned) on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Colabello (2-for-3) and B.J. Weed (2-for-4) led the way with two hits apiece. Also of note, Alex Trezza swiped his first-career stolen base on the back end of a double steal in the sixth inning. Chandler Barnard pitched a scoreless seventh for his first professional win while Eddie Pena pitched the eighth and ninth for his second save of the season.
Weed ripped Brockton starter Rolando Viera's first offering of the game into center field for a leadoff double. After advancing to third on a Scott Grimes fly to right, he scored on a Colabello sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.
The Rox used single runs in the next four innings to open up the 4-1 advantage after five. Phillip Cuadrano and Lee Rubin hit solo home runs in the second and third. Then in the fourth, Rubin struck again with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Francisco Lebron from second to make it 3-1. Jud Thigpen hit a fifth-inning double down the right field line to score Davilla all the way from first for the three-run advantage.
Worcester only recorded one run on four hits against Viera through the first six innings. However, the tides turned in the seventh when the Tornades touched him for four runs on four hits to turn a three-run deficit into a one-run advantage. Josh Farkes drove in the first run with a double before crossing the plate himself on a wild pitch. The big blow came from Colabello who hit a line-drive two-run shot to left, scoring Grimes, who had walked, for the 5-4 lead. For Colabello, it marked his third home run in as many nights and the first long ball off Viera in his last 39.2 innings pitched.
The series and homestand concludes on Wednesday when Matt Weagle takes the hill looking for his ninth win of the season and the series sweep. Red Sox legend Johnny Pesky will throw out the first pitch and you can also win a Webkinz!
