(Nashua, N.H., July 15, 2008) The Nashua Pride tagged a season high 17 hits in a 9-4 win over the Sussex Skyhawks, led by right fielder Jeremy Pickrel's 3-for-5, four RBI effort, which included a double and his tenth home run of the season on Tuesday night at Skylands Park.
Eight of the nine hitters in the Pride line-up recorded at least one hit against Sussex, including a three hit effort by center fielder Vinny Pennell, who finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Designated hitter Bryan Duplissie and second baseman Ismael Castro each finished their nights with a pair of hits and an RBI, shortstop Sandy Almonte went 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, while catcher Mike Torres finished 3-for-5 with an RBI. Pride left fielder Dennis Abreu extended his consecutive game hitting streak to 16 games going 1-for-5 with a double.
Pride starting pitcher Jason Paul (2-1) earned the victory for the Pride going seven strong innings, giving up two runs (one earned), on four hits, three walks and three strike outs. Reliever Adam Piechowski dealt a scoreless eighth inning in relief while Andrew Weimer gave up a pair of runs in the ninth to close out the game.
Skyhawks starter Kyle Ruwe (7-3) suffered the loss going eight-plus innings, giving up seven runs, on 13 hits, while walking none and striking out five. Reliever Edward Roberts gave up a pair of runs and picked up a pair of strike outs against the Pride on four hits in the ninth.
Sussex center fielder Ron Perodin recorded both of the Skyhawks' RBI in the game, going 2-for-5 with a double two RBI.
The Pride and Skyhawks will close out their three game series on Wednesday morning, at 11am, when Nashua send ace Hideki Nagasaka (5-2) to the mound against Sussex's Mark Michael (2-3).
