Sussex Skyhawks News Release
AUGUSTA, N.J. - *Nashua starter Jason Paul gave up just four hits over his seven innings of work as the Pride topped the Sussex Skyhawks 9-4 on Tuesday night at Skylands Park.
Paul (2-1) gave up just two runs (one earned) en route to his second victory of the season. The Pride offense, led by Jeremy Pickrel with four RBI, took care of the rest, pounding out 17 hits off Sussex pitching. Sussex starter Kyle Ruwe (7-3) gave up seven runs in eight innings of work, and was tagged with the loss.
Nashua (22-27) got on the board in the top of the third inning when Vinny Pennell singled to drive in Jeremy Edmondson with the game's first run. Two batters later, Pickrel blasted a two run-home run to right to give Nashua an early 3-0 lead. After Bryan Duplissie hit his league-leading 19^th double, Nashua catcher Mike Torres drove him in with a single to right to give Nashua a 4-0 advantage.
Nashua added another run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Ismael Castro to make it 5-0.
Sussex (26-23) answered in the bottom of the fourth when Paul walked the bases loaded to start the inning. Torres tried to pick off Jorge Moreno with a snap throw behind him down to second, but his throw skipped into the outfield scoring Kevin Rios from third and Moreno from second. That cut the Pride lead to 5-2.
Nashua scored four runs in the top of the ninth, which proved valuable because Sussex scored two in the bottom of the ninth and had two aboard when the final out was made.
Nashua and Sussex play the final game of the three game series at Skylands Park on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
