Brockton Rox News Release
Rox Host Nashua Friday at 7:05; Head to New Hampshire for Series' Final Two Games
Brockton, MA (June 7, 2007) - Despite 1B Francisco Lebron's HR and three RBI, the Brockton Rox were unable to overcome an onslaught of Worcester Tornadoes runs as they fell in the series finale 8-6 before a Campanelli Stadium crowd of 2,095. Worcester 1B Chris Colabello had three hits and three RBI in the win for the Tornadoes, who took three of four from the Rox in the series. RHP Gary Galvez took the loss for Brockton, allowing six runs (five earned) in 5.1 innings pitched. The Rox are home Friday for a single game against the Nashua Pride at 7:05 PM before heading to New Hampshire for the final two games of the three-game set.
After the Tornadoes struck for a run in the first, the Rox bats came alive in the bottom of the inning. Lebron drove home his first run of the day with a single. After C Jason Radwan's RBI single (extending his hiting streak to nine games) and two additional hits, the Rox had the bases loaded. SS Fredy De La Cruz drove home the third run of the inning with a hit to left. The Rox led 3-1 after the first, but the Tornadoes tied the game with a pair of runs in the third on a two-run single by C Yohanny Valera. In the fifth, the teams exchanged runs, as Lebron's third HR of the year tied the game at four.
In the sixth, Tornado CF Keith Beauregard broke the tie with an RBI double to center, and scored one batter later on a single to center by 2B Jeff LaHair. Neither team scored again until the ninth, when Worcester scored a pair against RHP Ryan Burnau. However, the Rox rallied one final time. A night removed from a furious ninth-inning four-run rally to beat the Tornadoes 5-4, the Rox plated runs in the ninth on three walks from RHP Eddie Pena, a DH Guye Senjem RBI double, and a Lebron groundout. With the tying run at first and the go-ahead run at the plate, RF Matt Maloney fanned to end the game, and the Tornadoes had their series win.
Friday, LHP Donavon Hendricks (0-1, 2.40 ERA) goes against RHP Jason Paul for the Nashua Pride at 7:05 PM at Campanelli Stadium.
